Recommended Training

For either of the Cisco Wireless LAN specializations, you should attend Aironet Wireless LAN Fundamentals and Site Survey (AWFSS) to prepare for their respective exams.


Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist

As organizations adopt wireless LAN technology in order to extend employee access to critical network resources, they require qualified professionals who can design, install, support, and operate a wireless LAN solution.  Cisco Wireless LAN Specialists understand radio technologies associated with WLAN 802.11g standards, WLAN, and bridge topologies and applications, can configure WLAN products including access points, bridges, client devices, and accessories, can determine best options and configure the appropriate security method for Wireless LAN environments, understand basic antenna theory, understand how to perform a site survey covering WLAN topology and design, and understand vertical market deployment and challenges including equipment utility and cable awareness.

Specialization Prerequisite

Valid CCDA certification.

Required Exam

To become a Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist, you must pass the 642-577 WLANSE exam.


Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist

To become a Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist, you must pass the 642-582 WLANFE exam.


Specializations Recertification

Both Cisco Wireless LAN specializations are valid for two years.  To recertify, either pass the current version of the respective exam, or pass a CCIE written exam.
